Hammad: We will arrest any citizen participating in Abbas’s elections

GAZA, (PIC)– Palestinian minister of interior Fathi Hammad stated Tuesday that his ministry would prevent any citizen in the Gaza Strip from participating in the unconstitutional elections that would be held by Mahmoud Abbas beyond the national consensus.

In a press statement to Palestine newspaper, Hammad added that the unilateral decision to hold elections in the West Bank is an attempt by Abbas to drive a wedge between the Palestinian people and entrench the internal division

“We in Gaza do not accept such a thing at all especially since we are a legitimate elected government and we will not engage in new elections unless there are reconciliation and a national consensus of all factions,” the minister underlined.

He noted that everyone trying to participate in these illegal elections through any means such as the internet or phone would be arrested and prosecuted.

In another context, the minister categorically denied the presence of political prisoners affiliated with Fatah in Gaza jails, saying that there are only small numbers of citizens who committed criminal and espionage acts and will stand trial.

IOA plans construction of new settlement in occupied Jerusalem

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)– The Israeli occupation authority (IOA) is planning to build a new settlement in Walaja village, occupied Jerusalem, that would comprise 14,000 housing units, a report by the Israeli B’Tselem for human rights organization revealed.

The organization published a report on its website on Tuesday saying that the new settlement would be built southwest of Jerusalem.

It said that settlement societies in Jerusalem were the ones planning the new settlement that would be established on the Arab village’s farming lands.

The plan envisages accommodating 45,000 settlers in 14,000 housing units, B’Tselem said, noting that the plan would include confiscation of Palestinian land and demolition of some of the village’s houses.

Palestinian alliance slams US bias in favor of Israel, calls for intifada

DAMASCUS, (PIC)– The alliance of Palestinian factions in Damascus on Monday deplored the American position biased in favor of the Israeli occupation which was voiced recently by secretary of state Hillary Clinton and called on all forces of the Palestinian people to renew the intifada and escalate resistance activities against the occupation.

In a press statement issued on the anniversary of the ill-fated Balfour declaration, the alliance stressed the need to resume the national reconciliation dialog away from the Zio-American pressures and blackmail.

The alliance also urged all spectra of the Palestinian people at home and in diaspora to be keen on the national unity based on the adherence to all historical and national rights and the option of resistance.

It also highlighted the Palestinian right to resist the occupation and confront the ongoing attempts to liquidate the Palestinian cause under the guise of the American solutions and promises, and the frivolous negotiations.

In another context, Anwar Raja, the spokesman for the popular front for the liberation of Palestine-general command (PFLP-GC), stated Sunday that the alliance of Palestinian factions is making considerable efforts to declare a comprehensive Palestinian authoritative body to save the Palestinian cause from deteriorating and to protect the resistance.

Raja explained that the idea of establishing an authoritative body is a natural result of the one-sided policies pursued by the Palestinian Authority.

He stressed that the establishment of this body became an urgent need and a transitional step to restore and rebuild the Palestine liberation organization (PLO) on the basis of the resistance.

Gaza electricity company warns of humanitarian disasters

GAZA, (PIC)– The Gaza electricity company has warned of humanitarian tragedies in the Gaza Strip in the event the Israeli occupation authority (IOA) continued to block entry of spare parts for its power network.

The company in a statement on Monday said that the company’s grid was suffering from worn out spare parts and is in dire need of new ones.

It said that the IOA blockade was leading the power grid in the Strip into total collapse, explaining that it was in need of rehabilitation and maintenance especially following the big destruction that affected it during the Israeli war on Gaza.

Any work stoppage would lead to negative and disastrous consequences on other services such as water, sewage, hospitals, children catering centers, and schools, the company highlighted.

The IOA has been blockading the Gaza Strip for the past three years and refuses to allow access for medical equipment and reconstruction material while allowing other necessities to trickle into the beleaguered Strip.
